[Two cups of champagne to celebrate not just getting on the flight, but actually having it take off (our original flight yesterday boarded, but never departed)]
We woke up this morning at 4:30 am, went outside to wait for the bus that was supposedly coming at 5 am to take us to the airport for our 8 am IcelandAir flight, only to discover at 5:30 am that our flight had been further delayed until 11. E and I decided to take matters into our own hands and made some calls, which eventually got us a reservation for an AirFrance flight leaving in the evening direct to Paris and would arrive just 1h later than the IcelandAir flight, and still give us time to catch our train to St. Jean Pied de Port. We spent the rest of the day sleeping and went to the airport around 3 pm, where we were informed that we would be placed on standby. In case no one has ever flown standby, it basically means that you have to wait around (outside security) until your flight is boarding to see if you can actually get a seat. Let’s just say that I will never again judge anyone I see running and cutting through security 30 minutes before their flight is scheduled to depart.
